    Hi,

Trying to keep the "same for all" as far as the rules / faq goes - the best thing is to just PM the people having problems and offer them in a PM what you have.

VPS are like dedicated servers - you, as the admin - are responsible for its setup and upkeep. This in itself, can be be a big job - and after it is done - require several hours a month to keep things up-to-date security-wise and so on.

The things you are describing should be easy to fix. The answer is to take one at a time - and go through the list. But perhaps you dont have the experience/knowledge to do it? It can be rather complex if you are not used to dealing with server config.

#1 - security image debug is a pain in the butt - but usually not too bad to fix.
#2 - is the email problem just aedating/dolphin - or the whole VPS - this is what you should check first.
#3 - this makes no sense - unless you have some hard coded pages or perhaps some DNS problems - which could be the problem with #2 also.
#4 - same as #3, check your header.inc.php - make sure your host value is set correctly.

well let take it one step at a time
first let turn off the security image i never like it..

sounds like you have some dns issues
the bouncing back from one server to the other.
do you have your our dns servers? on your new vps?
I can take a little as a few hour to up to 48 hour for the dns information to sync.
IF so did u change/update the information with your domain register?

the problems your having are reasonable and fixable.
hostforweb can resolved you dns information on the server side... just make sure the correct information at your domain register is correct.

    Smoge & Smoking. .

Life without knowleged is horrible lol. I see many people in forums scream and yell about issues that have simple solutiions, only because they have no knowledge. I am guilty of that here.

The thing is this: I have no experience/knowledge of server configuration at all. If I did, I would build my own server and run everything "in house", as it would be more cost effecient in the long run.

I went with a host company simply because I don't currenly have the insight to do all that on my own right now.

Being a newbie to this VPS, I contacted them before hand. They assured me that they would do the migration, and it would be seamless. Therefore, that is what I had anticipated. A Seamless upgrade.

Had I known that there was a period where things would possibly go array, I would have put up a notice on my site that it was unavailable and being serviced and waited it out. But because I did not know, and was here waiting and excited over my "seamless" upgrade - I never took my site off line, and instead I have 32 email complaints from my users that cant register or work other features.

The other thing, is that my lack of experience has me sitting here waiting for others to do the things that I should be doing on my own to fix it. I finally became familiar with Cpanel. It was great and I could find my way around, but now I was givin "web host manager" which looks good, but it is very confusing at first.

In conclusion: I have no ill feelings towards hostforweb. I still think they are a good choice. I think, I have read many bad things about them, and that's why I may have paniced and thought the sky was falling.

In the end, they provided me with excellent service during my shared hosting time. Theri support staff, in my opinion, was outstanding and responsive almost immediately.

They still are doing a great job. They have been in touch with me throughout this entire ordeal, and are still working to get it fixed, being both curteous and professional. They did just update me and inform me that it appears to be a DNS issue and they are working to fix it.

Not knowing much about servers and DSNs - we just assume that it's like a train coming down a track, and you need to switch the tracks.

I guess what I really need is a good tutorial/crash course on VPS, and how to support it on my own. Any good sources?

Thanks for your efforts and inputs. I have to get over my past attitude of "I want what I want - and I want it NOW" lol

    Default update

    Everything is all fixed.

    They responded:

the DNS and Reverse DNS records are now fixed as well as some e-mail misconfigurations.

I re-tested, and all is well - even the security image.

Again - big empasis on the fact that my lack of knowledge is more to blame on these issues, then the stability and competetance of hostforweb.

They did a great job in response and taking action.

Yes - strangely enough - the most serious problems are usually the easiest to fix... its the little annoying "happen only so often" problems that can be tough to find.

Looking at your list - it looked like it was the former - and thus - should be easily fixable.

Glad you got it worked out.

Pitching in my 2 cents. Host For Web has been a P.I.T.A.! My VPS is terrible and 'automagically' has to be rebooted several times a week. Live support is nice but not when all they say is..... Ill submit a ticket for you...

I took the easy way out...

Just hired Smoge to move me from my VPS at HFW to a dedicated server with raid 1 and 2x a day backups. He knew when they installed stuff wrong. It is VERY fast now...

    Default I use Infrenion

I like them. Its my first time using Boonex, they installed it for me, and when I had a ray registration error the other day I was at work and they talked to me with their online chat program and fixed it, and they installed ray for free. I'm going to a dedicated server once I can get someone from Modmysite to install clean with Chatmysite for me, and they have already said they will take care of everything for me to ensure a proper transfer and are offering me an extra 2 gigs of Ram for signing up. The installed FFMPEG for me, they really took care of everything.
