Due to the connection problems with mysql last night on the server running MOD - I thought it would be good to look for a monitoring application for mySQL and other web services.

I have installed a monitor that can watch the following services:

* Monitor HTTP Service (Ping verification, Response Verification)
* Monitor HTTPS Service [SSL V2] (Ping verification, Response Verification)
* Monitor FTP Service (Ping verification, Login Verification)
* Monitor SMTP Service (Ping verification, Login Verification)
* Monitor POP3 Service (Ping verification, Login Verification)
* Monitor DNS Service (Ping verification, Query Verification)
* Monitor TCP Service (Ping verification, Connect Verification)
* Monitor MySQL Service (Ping verification, Login Verification)
* Staged alerts, so you are not flooded with alerts if you have downtime

* Notify using SMTP (email, or in my case, to my mobile phone)
* Submit to Web page (WebNotice)

Right now, it is monitoring the server running MOD (and some other sites).
