    Default a very important isseu

    Hi Guys..and smoge.

I am deep involved in search engines optimising and just been to a convention for SEO’s.
    Houston – We’ve got a problem.

We are all using url that send id in it. For example:
    http://www.jaters.com/profile.php?ID=56

Google uses self ID as a parameter which means that ALL of our pages that got that in the url WILL NOT be index in Google… and that is a problem because the more pages from our sites indexed in Google the better it is for the site’s PR and for the place in the search results.

The only thing we need to do is chance the ID to something else like PID for example. That’s it. That will solve the problem.

So I am asking…is there a central place in our code/db that we could change that parameter’s name or we are talking about going deep into the script in every page and changing it over there?

chance the ID to something else like PID for example.

im no expert but i would like it so the profiles would be search engine friendly like faceparty.com has there profiles show up as

    www.faceparty.com/username

this is good for advertising as they say if your chatting to someone on the internet who like to see you photo you can send them to your profile address as it is easier to remember than www.domain.com/profile.php?ID=45

like i said im no expert and dont know how to do this but like to hear from others on this as well yair

I need to differ on this some.... I think this is more of a rumour that fact.

There are some techinical issues I can go into about it if needed, but in general, mod_rewrite will not affect or have minimal effect on speed for those running a busy site on a dedicated server.

His question is an old one, from back in 06-2005

But yes, mod_rewrite is an solution to this - the .php is replaced by .html - for profile views and direct profile links (like featured members, new members, etc).

    Default Can you clarify?

What do you mean when you say we are all using URLs with ID's in them - just ae ones, or do you mean ALL, as in the whole web?

Yair is just saying the the term "ID" in a URL is not good for SEO - and that aedating uses this (and dolphin too) - so he is looking to replace "ID" with something else, like "PID" - and later posts, people suggested why not /johndoe.html - using mod_rewrite.
