Default Can't paste text into Orca??

    I am running 5.6.005.

In Orca, when the user creates a new post, if he pastes text into the Topic Text field, he will be able to submit the post. But whenever anyone clicks on the topic to read it, the forum hangs! It stalls at the "Loading Forum Topic" message.

I tried pasting text, and the forum hangs as described. Then as a test I went back and TYPED the same text into a new post and submitted, and it was fine. I repeated this multiple times with same result.

If you're using IE7 and you click on the new post (the one which was made by cutting and pasting text into it) you get the message "Loading Forum Topic" forever.

However if you're using Firefox and you click on the topic, You get a message like this:

XML Parsing Error: undefined entity Location: http://www.your_domain.com/orca/?act...posts&topic=40 Line Number 16, Column 67

And then you see the garbled text of the post.

Please, what is going on here? User should be able to paste text right??? Can this be fixed?

First off - does your server configuration have all the additional php modules installed required to run Orca?

Second - I have noticed the problems with copy/paste on BoonEx's Orca based sites.... instead of using the mouse, you may want to try Control-C and Control-V to copy/paste text.

I think the ability/inability to copy / paste text in Orca is some "non-feature" or perhaps a limitation of the current code.... I too have had problems with Orca in various browsers - which in my opinion - makes it ill suited for use as a forum at this time, until these issues are addressed.

    Hi Smoge, thanks for replying.

Yeah, I verified via phpinfo that the additional modules are loaded.

Orca is a pain. But I think I'm kinda stuck using it, because of MD5 encryption. I bought lansin's MD5 encryption mod, and he told me not to use phpbb because it has its own encryption, which makes for a big mess. Unless of course I just made a forum completely separate from Dolphin, which just isn't practical. sigh

Well - a couple of comments.... Lansin's MD5 encryption mod is not really recommended - as you have found out - it makes it much harder to add in 3rd party applications. I can see doing MD5 on the admin table, but even that - is not needed if you have an .htaccess for your /admin and /moderators subfolders.

Does MD5 have a place - yes - but only if you are willing to accept the ups and downs of it.

As for a forum - we have a forum - built into dolphin / aedating - 833-Forum - written in "plain english" php - easy to modify and maintain. It uses the dolphin / aedating users table and authentication methods.

As for adding a 3rd party module with your MD5 - can be done.... we can mod your 3rd party app to authenticate off of dolphin with it's MD5.

NOW you tell me! Well I've already spent the $50 and implemented it, thinking it was essential for security. Guess I should have done more research. At that time, however, I didn't know this site existed. I wish I had!

I really like the 833 Forum and I wish I could afford it. It really looks excellent.

    Thanks

Yea - maybe Lansin should have been more forthcoming with the details of the mod and how it would affect things later.

Just to repeat - the MD5 is not a BAD idea... but it does have some side effects.... mostly being loosing the ability to easily add 3rd party external scripts.
