Thread: Upgrading from 3.3

I thought I'd tackle my rusty version of 3.3 and try and bring it up to date, myself. I have no real experience with mysql, but am familiar with many aspects of web development having done this for 10 years. Anyway, I was hoping I could learn all what needs to be done here. I don't think there's a step by step guide yet, but the info is sort of scattered on aewebworks and other sites? Maybe the help I need (learning more about mysql, relevant to a aedating upgrade, and each and every upgrade quirk to be aware of) is beyond what can be offered in this thread? But I need to start somewhere. I have phpmyadmin and putty at the ready I think I have the first release of v4, but nothing else in between up to the present version.

Yes - you need to get all the upgrade scripts and run them beween your current aedating version and the one you want to upgrade too.

Backup first... replace your prof.inc.php at the end (if not stock).

It is an interesting experience sometimes - LOL... depends on how much you changed your original DB... I hope you never deleated any fields from Profile or ProfileDesc - as this will often break the upgrade scripts.

Of course, we (ModMySite) have done this many times... it is not too bad of a job. Biggest thing is dealing with any mods you made that would affect, or be affected by, the database upgrade (for example, gold member mods that use the "extra addons" field).
