Dolphin 5.6 ...I think
Has anyone tested this out yet? I am quite curious - and skeptical lol.
I see the demo site for boonex is still not showing photos (except for their own which they have uploaded in the new 5.6).
My thought is that if this upgrade process worked, they would have done their site first lol

AHAHAHAHHAA..... should have known.
"Unable to update
Database access error.
Did you properly edit inc/header.inc.php file?"
Classic.
Edit: There is no mention in the instruction about editing the header.inc file. Only changing the CHMOD to 777.

Did you get the photos to work? I did a test run on the upgrade, and it did rename all the photos correctly, but the main profile photo does not display. I am thinking there is a problem updating the database ?????

Nothing is working. I manually updated the db with the lang.txt and gIParams. The only entries that worked are the following:Originally Posted by Ringodestarr

Dolphin 5.6 ...I think
Ok..heres what I did. I manually put in the sql above into my 5.5 db. Then replaced everything on my server but my forum (phpbb) and media folders. Ran the 5.6 install specifically stating the db tables and such weren't empty. Then from the "upgrade folder", I ran the php files in there from my browser. This partially worked with creating the new folders/name schemes for the media. It only did about half of them. Still an issue with the main photos for the majority, but I got it working and just mass emailed all my members stating to reupload.
Best I could do for now. I mean the db is updated and such. I wan't expecting anything seemless..I mean seriously, this is from the self proclaimed "real russian heroooooooos", Not Rob. So it works. Now I just have to go through and fix all the damn link names since quite a few have the underscore..but oh well.

Cool - I am glad someone made the leap to the other side - TRATOR !!!!! hahah jk
Your members are much more forgiving then mine lol. I run a free site, just under 3k members so far . . but I am certain that if I sent out an email asking everyone to re-load their photos, mass hysteria would break out and a large portion of my members would not come back.
They have hissy fits when their activation email goes to their spam folder and they can't figure it out. Even though I warned them in the join process lol.

Toreador and Ringo, and anyone else wants to voice in!
Question for you guys, since Smoge has decided not to bump up to the newest version with GPLDate, are you still going to stick with the Dolphin 5.6 code?
After going through all this to upgrade, which it went fairly smoothly and then seeing that, I was like WTF! Now I'm not sure if I will go backwards or stick with Dolphin. I'm as guilty as everyone else of jumping around, but I have learned a lot about my software upgrading. Just not sure where I want to be. I know this, the current mods that Expertzzz/Boonex is selling don't work in 5.6. eCards or Photo Kaleidescope. I will assume most of the others won't either. We will probably have to put a bit of pressure on them, to get them working, both of these are Boonex Products, so shouldn't be a big deal
Anyway, where are you guys going with things?
Thanks,
John
Retired for the time being.....
My thoughts:
Right now I am just sitting back and bitting some time. My live site is 5.5 and will remain that way for quite some time.
I did a test upgrade from 5.5 to 5.6 and all went pretty smooth - EXCEPT the main photos. But - what is a site with no main photos lol. I have close to 3k members, and I refuse to sit here all day and manually upload them.
For now, I feel that 5.6 does not deliver the bang that I had expected. I am not ready to upgrade my users to an environment that has less functionality and where all of my old mods fart out.
Here is the delima: Do I stay at 5.5, as most new mods will be for 5.6 and higher thus excluding me, or do I (once again) begin the never ending battle of upgrading and investing time, money and resources. Only to find out that in a few weeks 5.7 is here and I have to start all over.
I feel as if I have aged 30 years in a month just trying to keep up. I agree 100% with Smoge when he says (and I am paraphrasing here) "A solid site that has 100% functionality is worth so much more then a new site with the latest coolets features that does not work"
As a member, if I visited a site and things did not work, I would simply leave and never come back again. End of story. Right now, my 5.5 site works. Until 5.6 or any version to come in the future works as good or better then my 5.5, then I will sit here.
That does not mean that I wont continue to tinker around with 5.6 and any new releases. A man has got to have hope, ya know!! lol
There's my 63 cents.
My final review: I am greatly dissappointed in the 5.6 release. I honestly feel that it is nothing more then a revenue ploy from the makers. There are those who will pay to upgrade and pay for all the new 5.6 mods and what not. That being the case, boondox will ALWAYS push a newer version with bugs. I don't knock them for doing it. I don't agree, but the way I look at it is this. The damn thing is free. I can take it or not. So, what do I have to complain about?
In the end: If you are starting a new site, go ahead and play with 5.6, you have nothing to lose. If you are already up and running on 5.5 or a previous version . . .WAIT it out.
