Default BoonEx Dolphin Link Removal Policy

I find this interesting.... even though Dolphin 5.3 is GPL, and you can remove the links as you wish - for Dolphin v5.2.1 and before (the non-GPL), BoonEx wants between $10 and $20 to remove the links.

While this maybe good business sense for BoonEx, with a $10 to $20 charge - it seems a bit greedy and unfair, and if I was the BoonEx CEO (which I am not!), I would have not done this.

Sure, 5.2.1 and before was not GPL, but 5.3 is - what possible result will this have other than to line BoonEx pockets, and get people upset.

From what I can remember [and read in their fourm], the Dolphin team had always said the code was open source. To me that means I am able to add, modify and/or remove any code within which in my mind defeats the purpose of charging for link/banner removal.

They said this prior to v5.3 - but it was not a "normal" open source - it was "boonex open source" under a rather restrictive license.

They had crazy stuff in this "boonex open source" license which was unacceptable to everyone who cared to read it. And you still needed a license code to install the application. Also, the files still had their copyright header.

With 5.3, it went to GPL, which is a standard open source license, the license code requirement was removed, and the file headers were changed to reflect its true GPL status.

I just got boonex dolphin, and I needed to signup for a license, and I also have the option to pay them $20 to remove the banner, and another $20 to remove the text.

You need a license for all versions.....

Or did I miss something and get get the shaft deal? I would like to get an a fully open source code rather than this license crap...

    AND....

I have to log into boonex's site when logging into admin.

Or is this the norm and I just missed it all?
