Thread: Can you load more than one website/script to one DB?

Hello, Let's say you want 4 different websites with different themes? However, you want them to use the same third party chat/forums/etc. Can you load four versions of the same dating script onto the DB?

What is the upside to this?

I heard there is a product that will allow you to combine data from different DBs in an active environment. I was thinking this may be cool since I then could take that data and then run it to my 3PS's (3rd party scripts). I'm getting tired of loading the same 3PS's ...over...and over ...AND over...

One more question..If I do load all 4 scripts to one DB, will the user be able login to another script they did not register on? IN other words will the DB keep each account on each script separate from the other?

I have currently 30 different installs, each separately configurable with theme, admin user\pass, etc, but they all share the same profiles, the same exact ray chat with cam. when someone signs up on 1 site, they are included on all. I am assuming this is what you are wanting to do. If so, contact me on msn or yahoo (invis but always online) and I can help you.

The only requirement to do this is Linux. I have not been able to figure this out on winblows.

This is also in the roadmap for GPLdate... so if you can wait a while - a standard way of doing this will be available.

If LordPsyan wants to help out with this standard implementation - it would be appreciated.

Doing it on a standard, as in GPLdate - will give you some level of "upgrade protection".

My "mod" to allow multiple dolphins to use seperate databases, but share profiles, forums, and a single ray chat works only on linux servers, and is really just "tricking" dolphin. I installed 3 sites with dolphin, and got 1 working, and left the other 2 default, then I manually deleted the ray, and orca folders on the other 2 sites, and created symbolic links to the first's folders. then I went into my mysql database folder, and deleted all files starting with Profile, and recreated them as symbolic links to the first site's database. This is working well for me, and setting up a new site is almost instant, cept for the long boring install. I will be installing 4 sites tonight with GPLdate, and getting ray 2.0 to work this way. if I succeed, I will post the info here on exactly what I did. Ray is a pain to put anywhere, and I still can't figure out presence, or the desktop presence. I did get the desktop to connect, and show online users, but it crashes if you try to instant message.

This site rocks. I found only 1 annoying aspect... you need to split the "free mods" section up into parts. I had to read each and every one to find out what version it works for, should be set into aedating\dolphin version number catagories.

Yes - is pretty much how we expected to do it - but we are hoping for a method that also allows sharing sites across servers.

Cool - that would be great - be forewarned - we are trying to decide the next couple of days if the GPLdate base code will bump up to 5.5 from 5.3.

Are you running Ray server (Red 5)?

Yea - it would take some time to do this... Mark and I talked about it and we think it would take two full days of someone cleaning/sorting/pruning to get the site sorted better. No time for that now, unfortunately.

If you are going to bump, are you going to at least set up an upgrade path? This is one of the problems with Boonex, as you know, they release and don't leave any of us that have heavily modified our sites an upgrade path. Even with the subversion server, everyone isn't going to add this, I looked at it, and figured I can compare things quicker and manually make the adjustments with Araxis, as I'm comfortable with that. Also, if you are going to do so, are you going to clean up the SQL at the same time? In this case, it might be at least really worth taking the time.

At some point you will orphan a lot of people as Boonex does with their constant changing things.

We had a pretty huge topic about this going on over at GPLdate.Com

As for the database - we will supply a GPLDate01 to GPLdate02 upgrade script.

File wise - we will supply an archive of changed files for those who want to do file replacements.

If you modd'ed files - then it is the same as always - you will need to diff your files.
