Can be done... but you will want to have some symlinks for your images and other uploaded files (id_img, id_wav, and stuff like that).

Umm, LOL...Smoge what are symlinks ? I think I need a class! LOL
I was really considering just using one DB for all my sites and tying on all user accounts to one DB. I assume it would cut down my maintenance time and would save me money on 3rd party scripts (video chat, messenger, etc). Is there a down side to using a single DB for a series of sites?
yes u have the traffic volume problem. along with if u say 3 sites 3 x the members then ur going to have huge strain on the db
"using one DB for all my sites and tying on all user accounts to one DB"
Yes - we have done this for others already.
"along with if u say 3 sites 3 x the members then ur going to have huge strain"
Its the same - assuming the 3 sites are on the same server anyways.

welll if the mysql server and hosting server r seperate. then u won't have problems becuase if u can traffic the two requests to be on different computers then u can run more effiecently since u don;t bog the one down with all the accessing
But if u take three db's u seperatrate the data usage onto different different computers...
ur gonna run faster then cnnecting three sites to one db
But i am talking about clustering which maybe thats out of the idea of what u want to do
Hi,
I do not agree with you totally - as we have serveral sites that run multi-domain on one copy of dolphin - sharing the database and code - but each site can have it's own theme - it's own language entries - it's own users - and so on.
As for running mySQL on one server, and Apache on another - this is not really necessary - as the servers these days are so powerful, and with a fair amount of RAM in them, and a decent disc subsystem - you can use one server for both and have very low load.
As I mentioned - we already have done this and use it on several sites and it works great... yes - it takes some time to setup - but once you have that nut cracked - it is much easier than running several copies of the code... and it also allows (if you wish) some interactions between the users on the "different" domains.

whats the pricing for this mod smoge?
It takes a while to install - and thus - is rather expensive. But it is better than running multiple copies of aeDating or Dolphin - and more true if you want to share users among multiple domains.
For more information, please open a ticket so we can discuss your individual needs.
