Thread: related database fields on JOIN and PROFILE pages

hi,

Does anyone know what pages need to be edited to create related fields on the JOIN and PROFILE pages. We are trying to relates region to town etc.

We have managed to do it for the search page but not the Join and Profile pages.

Any help greatfully appreciated

The fields on the join form (and profile edit) come from the database - the ProfilesDesc table... and the fields are shown on these pages "on the fly" based on the settings in the ProfilesDesc table.

So, for these pages - there is no php to edit - just database changes.

However, if you want some of your new fields to show up (in some cases, depending on where you want them to show) on your search_results or profile view pages - you may need to make php and template changes.

You could try a search here on ModMySite for "add fields" and you will find some posts that may be helpful in understanding how it works - or you can check the aedating manual - or ask more questions here in the forum.

Thanks Smoge but I think that I should make my question more specific.

I have someone working on this for me but he has hit a brick wall. We are trying to relate three fields/tables. the first is 'regioin', the second 'town/city' and the third 'club'.

We have managed to do this on the Search page so that when a user selects, for example 'south east' from the region field on the town/cities in the 'south east' show. Then when they select, for example, Maidstone from the 'town/city' field, only the clubs in Maidstone show up. It is working at http://www.saw-u-there.com/search.php

My real question is how does he get it working so that we have the same fields working in the same way on the JOIN and PROFILE pages as they are on the SEARCH page??

You need to use javascript to do this - there is no relationship like this in stock aedating.

If this will take you much time - you could consider using our WorldCites mod - which does this for all the major cities of the world... (43,000+ of them), or if you want to be really wild - you can go for the whole 1.4 million of them.

Of course, it works on all locations that require an interface into the City/State/Country data (join, edit, display, admin, search).
