    Default Password not the same

when trying to log in after creating a new account the password I entered setting up the account doesn't work, when I use the forgot password, I'm sent a totally different password to the one I used in setting up the account, but this password will work.

but this is going to make members mad.

I think it has something to do with the encrypted passwords. When 6.0 came out, the passwords were not encrypted...the administrator could see the passwords. That isn't good as a lot of people use one password for everything.
The forgot password also did not work in 6.0-6.2...

Just reword the e-mail to say something like, "Here is your temporary password please log on and change" or something like that...

    There's a ticket related http://www.boonex.net/dolphin/ticket/463
Members whose passwords consist of more than 9 character can't log in, because the login form and the join form (as well as the password change form) character counters don't match.
    • milestone changed from 6.0.0004 to 6.1.
This system will be rewritten in 6.1

The resend of a new password is a consequence by the md5 encoding, old password can't be recovered so a new one is send

md5 encoding is a good practice, overall it enhances security

I will stay out of this conversation - I don't like the encrypted passwords (the new way) - I understand the reason for this - but in practice, it is a pain in the arse.

In CLEAN 6.0.1, we had the ability for the admin to choose at install to use or not use encrypted passwords... for many reasons... however, we bowed out to BoonEx's decision about this and kept them in CLEAN 6.0.3

If you want to make your passwords non-encrypted - it is not a difficult modification. It also makes adding integration of 3rd party scripts easier.
