    Default Confirmation Emails & Blogs

Got 6.03 installed and I have to say it has a much better load time than the Boonex release. However I'm having an issue with confirmation emails. I created some test users. The first one has an email account at hotmail and the second at yahoo mail. The first user never received the confirmation email. Sent it multiple times, checked the spelling, and even created another user with a hotmail account. Any idea what would cause that? Can the email confirmations be turned off?

Next, I was disappointed to learn that blogs are currently disabled. When will the patch for that be released?

Yes - and I expect this to even get better as we further optimize the database.

Other emails OK? If not, we have found that SMTP email sending method works well - we have a mod for this that routes all outbound mail for the site through a gMail account - and they get delivered. Or, you can double check your server config - run a DNS report at http://www.dnsreport.com and see how it looks (for starters).

As for turning it off - yes - there is a glParam for that - in SETTINGS / MODERATION SETTINGS / Automatic profile activation after joining

I expect before our vacation (starts the 23rd)... sometime this week.

It will be posted as a patch in the bug fixing forums.

After logging in to my site, I went to "My Photo Gallery" and there was a link to the Blog. After placing one blog entry I discovered that the blog button appeared on the menu and that it is open site wide for all to use. So, once you design your first blog it appears everything will work out perfect.

The blogs were intentionally shut off in the original 6.03 Clean release to work out a security issue. I don't think they were intended to be re-activated until modmysite releases the patch. Be carefull.

There are several settings under MODERATION:

    1. Automatic profile activation after joining
    2. Do not change profile status after photo uploading
    3. Do not change profile status after editing profile information
    4. Automatic photo activation after uploading
    5. Automatic profile confirmation without Confirmation Email

I believe the correct selection is 5?

Do you know of a way that I can have the profile activate (standard member) upon payment of a membership? I feel very strongly that the lack of this option in Dolphin is a flaw in the script.

At the very least I would like to restrict the standard account even further, particularly to the groups. Letting an un-paid membership have full access the the groups is just asking to get spammed.

Yes - this is a good idea - it would be a mod - but not a hard one - to make it so paying members are not changed to Approval on profile changes. Maybe this should include media also?

Yes - this is what we have found is that BoonEx has opened the script wide for non-members or non-active members. We need to add this back in as we have many sites that this open method just does not fit the model.

Any Idea when you might be adding this to clean?

The "lock down" of user allowed actions so they are more like the Dolphin 5.6.5 and aeDating 4.1.4 releases (where if you are not an ACTIVE MEMBER, you can not do much, on the choice of admin) we have already started to add. We are doing more with this over the next couple of days (we are now back from our much needed Holiday vacation).

As for the "no change of status for paid members", I don't think this is a hard mod (as I mentioned) and we will try to do this one also in the same time frame. It's a good idea.

Eagerly awaiting the next release. My site is 95% finished and I'd really like to finish it off my adding these new "lockdown" features.

    Yup - I know exactly what's causing that. Micro$oft.

Basically, the Hotmail platform automatically spams email from 95% of IP address ranges. We're not talking putting the message in a spam folder either - it just doesn't bother to process it, and deletes it before it even reaches the intended user's mailbox.

If you're lucky then you end up with a unique IP that will pass through, but there's no way of knowing which ones will until it either works or doesn't work.

The only way around this is to pay Micro$oft $5k (at least) a year to become a 'Live Mail Partner', which will allow emails through to Hotmail users unchecked.

It's something we've all got to deal with unfortunately. I've modified our Join Form to show a message that tells users registering to use a different email address or sign up for a Gmail account.

    Hope this helps!

    Paul
