Thread: Stability?

I have been using this script since AED2.1. It has always been buggy and I know everyone here realizes this. I just installed 6.01 pretty seamlessly and it seems to be working, but it is clear to me that it is an awfully complicated set of scripts at this point with a lot of land mines regarding what is actually free and what you have to "turn off" for a fee etc.
My question is this: Is there any hope for a stable version here, with ALL the bells and whistles (like AV communication.....like Ray etc.) so I can migrate over to it and it actually runs without deprecating. That has happened to me on every other version I have used......due to hackers or whatever, I don't know.....AE/Boonex scripts just eventually corrupt?? I have not had this happen with any other widely available scripts I use....like WordPress. Not being a programmer, I got pretty good in troubleshooting AED 2 and 3, but 6.0 is WAY beyond me. The site I run is free and do not want to get trapped into something that will break soon.
Anyone running 6.01 successfully yet or do programming gurus have any advice as to when we might have a stable version that will not need to be incessantly upgraded...including some AV addins etc? Again, the site is meant to be free....so I don't see the point to go negative cashflow on everything...already have that just from the hosting and bandwidth.

Related question...anyone know when the couples mod will become active?

Final question for those using other solutions. Would it just be better, in your opinion, to go ahead and use a GNU product like Joomla which has a better reputation and broad support and plugins....many for free?

All I can say is.... stable releases are considered to be:

3.3
4.1.4
5.6.5

any other release should be considered unstable - including 6.x at this point.

my site has allso some problems in audio galey for exaple... some visual problems .... but i can say it works better than people say

We assume, unless other bug reports come in - that CLEAN 6.0.1 will be considered a stable release also shortly.

So, when 6.01 clean for the core program becomes available, what is the going recommendation as to a COMPLETE solution including communication tools.....like Ray? Is it 6.01 + UserPlane + whatever? Is there a possible "clean" Ray? Or is it something else? Or is the alternative of PHPH Fox still a "better" solution overall? If so, why? To those that are familiar with social-networking sites and all the current and upcoming software availability, which is the better solution in terms of incessant upgrades? I mean advances will always continue, but with Dolphin and the previous AED scripts it seems the "upgrades" were coming WAY too fast and with poor upgrade options.

I just want to stop screwing around and set the best course. Any advice appreciated.

My sentiments exactly and something with no calling home, they did that before and sites were a mess when they could not phone home. I see that admin cannot even login without registering.

Talk about control freaks, why do they need all this data? Why does having a free license make any difference? Other than admin cannot login in if they don't register.

Roll on MMS version with some communication integration.

I seem to remember reading on the Dolphin site that they plan to continuously release new upgrades...I could be wrong, but I thought they said 4 times a year???

So, Dolphin sounds like it will always be a headache, unless the upgrades are fairly simple changes.

If Smoge could throw in a clean Ray somehow - or reasonable facsimile - like phpMotion (video submission) - and a decent forum - then a bugless/Clean Dophin 6 would seem attractive to me...

phpfox has supposedly finished 100% of the bugs found with their RC1, and should be releasing the stable version any time now....

Dolphin seems to offer more potential - to me - but people are always finding one more problem with it, it seems....

I am really tempted to just go with Fox...dammit, I need something I can get down to work with....and stop worrying about things that don't work which I cannot easily and inexpensively fix.

Lots of folks seem happy with the older stable versions of that software.

I'm kind of liking what I see and hear about PHPFox. As a tangent on this thread then, has anyone migrated a member database from an older AED version (2.x) or an early Dolphin 5.x to PHPFox? If you have, are you a weekend/evening warrior or a programmer? I'm running both on two different sites. Just trying to weight the risk & pain-in-the-ass factor vs. benefit.

It is very hard to choose things for which you lack sufficient information.
One cannot seem to get any information out of Boonex at times...and maybe that should be one's first clue...

This site here seems to be a good source of some kinds of information.
But when you are a noob you don't know what are the important things.

I tried to phone the number in your footer several times last week, with no response, and finally gave up.

I would like to know this:

How long do you think it might be before you come up with a "clean" version of Dolphin that is also stable, and will do all the things advertized for it?

Other people have posted in this forum that you really ought not to go with Dophin unless you have programming skills, or easy access to someone who does.

How much do you think it would cost to get a fresh install made and fix it so that it runs properly?

If I had some idea about costs, then I could make a better decision.

I do not want to pay $300 plus dollars for your userplane integration, and then find out that Dolphin is just one chronic headache after another which will require me to pour more and more money down the drain for troubleshooting. I already went through this kind of BS with phpFox before giving up.

One needs some reassurance that the money is not just going into a Black Hole.
