    Default Clean_Dolphin

I just uploaded The clean dolphin and was doing install and have a few problems.
Is there a complete install manual available?
    Here are my problems:
    1) You may wish to consider turning off mysql.allow_persistent in your php.ini file configuration.
You can find information on how to do that here.

    2)Do I need to create ./inc/header.inc.php and ./periodic/periodic.file
and copy the script into files?

    3) I did create files for above. Now after install I get this ERROR:

Warning: fopen(/home/matt/public_html/dolphin/langs/lang-English.php) [function.fopen]: failed to open stream: Permission denied in /home/matt/public_html/dolphin/inc/languages.inc.php on line 317
Error: Could not compile the default language. The script cannot execute any further.

    1. Your host will be the main concern to make sure D6 runs as expected.
    2. Dolphin does have an install file you can follow. It is over at boonex.com from memory.
    3. It is better if this is off mysql.allow_persistent
    4. The header and periodic files you mentioned are created by the script at install, not by you.
    5. You should have no problems with the language at install, maybe you didn't have folder permission correct?

    Hope this helps

    Default Dolphin Stinks

My host is not the problem. I have Dolphin 6.0002 installed and it runs fine. However the Ray Widgets are not working. I have the Ad-Free version and the RMS (Ray Media Server) installed on my server. It is that damn boonex dependency that is messing the whole thing up. I am tired of testing this and testing that, and waiting for bugs to get fixed. I am a business man and want a site that works. Dolphin6 has the look I really like. But the usability sucks. I have 3 test users and the damn thing will not act reliable. What will happen if I have 1000s? I have other software I want to integrate into a community script but have had no luck finding one that has the right look and community atmosphere that boonex has captured. I have another site that is powered by PHP Fox that I like. But integration is tough. I am no programmer and do not know the first thing about any of it. I just have an idea of what i want and how the site should look and feel to my users. We are currently building with DruPal. But that is not the type of site I want. But at least it has some options, ( And maybe I just do not understand it) I plan on reading as many books and doing as much PHP and MYSQL training as I can and I will create my own site, But that is going to be years away before I can even think about doing that. So in the mean time I need something reliable.
If you know of any other SOCIAL COMMUNITY scripts that may work for me I am open to other options. I do not want to pay for a hosted script though. I want it on my servers with no dependency on anything outside of that.

Have you tried the 'local' product Dolphin Clean from MMS here, it is not reliant on callbacks. It doesn't have the chat etc as yet, but once a stable core is developed those are planned to be added. A stable core is the basis for building, Boonex have changed that numerous times over the past 12 months and how can people possibly keep up?

A suggestion perhaps, download the latest Clean, see if it works the way you want it to, then add those modules for chat etc as they are developed without reliance on Boonex.

Default We went for the Clean and Flashcoms...

I tried the complete script, and chose the 6.00.1 Clean version myself. I spent 2 months working with different variations, and finally decided to bite the bullet and just go with a clean Dolphin with a totally seperate Flash Chat. We are still adding some integrated features of our chat app into the main site, but are having the Flashcoms developers do that for us. While we've more or less stuck with the generic setup for Dolphin, we've been playing with the code a little to tweak it to our liking, and just doing that gradually. I too worried about the user experience going forward, but so far it seems to be very stable after applying any fixes and patches recommended on this site. We've gone from under 40 users to over 250 in just a few days without a hitch other than the occassional "I can't log in" type issues. The Payments functions with auto upgrades work flawlessly, and users are immediately upgraded to the subscription they select, which was my BIG worry. (Everyone wants what they pay for instantly). The ONE piece of advice I can give you is: IF you get ANY plugins or additions for your Dolphin, make backups of your original files. It's saved me a LOT of headaches when I've tried installing mods and they cause problems. I just replace the new modded files with the originals until I get a fix found for any problems I encounter. I make any programmer I use do the same. AND I make em give me a list of EVERY file along with every mod they make so I'll have a history of changes in case I need to go back to them.

    Hope this helps!
If at first you don't succeed, go to a forum and ask like hell. (Using Joomla 1.5.18, JomSocial 1.6.12, Fully Customized)

Yes it is/was - I spoke to him in chat - and he has permission problems.

For example, even though it is specified in the install script for a non-PhpSuExec install that the cache folder be set to 777, his was not.
