Default Start completely over with 5.6.5

Soooooooo, after reading tons of threads here about D7 (which I totally agree is crap but did not realize until installing) Im wondering, should I just kill it all - DB and everything and just Install 5.6.5 Clean fresh?

Smoge what do you recommend I do here? I dont mind going to 5,6,5 - just wondering if a fresh install would be best? (Im thinking yes but want to validate.)

Been using Boonex SW since AE Dating 4.1!

    Thanks for your advice.
makenoize uses IQ AE Dating (4.1.0004) and Clean 6.0.1b3. Currently using D7 and hating it - this is no longer fun.......

    Hi
Smoge, Just got your reply to this:
    http://www.modmysite.com/dolphin-cle...html#post40324

which also pertains to this thread.

Sorry I did not catch that 5.6.5 is not made yet in the posts I read. Thanks for replying to the above so quickly. I will need to begin immediately with something else other than D7 as Im sick of beating my head against the wall with it ... .. Im going to go ahead and do a completely new install just not sure which version Im going to use.

    Default Glad to hear this

Nice to hear that you've made the decision to go forward with something original from all of this. I just hope people are going to realize that this isn't something that will be coming out in the next two weeks. If it takes a year or two, my feeling is that it will be far and away superior to anything that will be coming along over the same time period from Boobex...

    Hi,

Yes - it will take some work. We already did the CLEAN part, and are now working on making some changes we know are need to support a lot of users with low load (related the the profiles table).

As I mentioned in this thread:
    http://www.modmysite.com/terrible-st...html#post40277

... we know some things that need to be done to support a lot of users (million +). While most sites who perhaps may use the code will never have this many users, we prefer to code it this way from the start.

Thus, one of the important things to do is the profiles table work mentioned above.

Another is adding our code (image related) to break the 32K user barrier which exists on Linux EXT3 formatted file systems.

We will also add World Cities, VERP support, and other mods before the first release.

We have two guys working on it (about 30 hours a week total between them) and we just started, so yes, it will be a bit before it is ready.

Today we worked on video uploads, conversion to .fla files using FFMPEG (system based), and playback using OpenSource (Free) Flowplayer (http://www.flowplayer.org ).

I am not going to recommend anything... I think the only way to proceed is to see what we do with 5.6.5 and then, you and others can make your own decisions.

7.x will be more feature full than just about anything we can do in 5.6.5 anytime soon - but we are not looking for features - we are looking for fast running, easy to read and maintainable code, with a feature set that most people need. Plus some fun stuff thrown in (like VERP perhaps), but in a "non-bloated" way.

Our goal is the script itself be GPL, with no license, and all features either totally free, or free for reasonable use but upgradeable (this may be necessary for the Video Chat and Video IM).

Things beyond that, like, let's say, a SpyWall like function or whatever, can come later.

    Default Yup Yup Yup

    Code...

Clean, Concise, Modular, well documented, and secure.

Facebook wasn't created in a day or even a year... It started with a concept and has been continuing to evolve over time as user feedback (and of course profit generation) has moved it to where it is today.

I would much rather have a smaller smooth-running scalable system in place with the ability to add modules without affecting the base code. A basic set of core systems that can be enabled or disabled from the back end. Where patches and revisions do not necessitate a complete overhaul of the system. Updates which can be applied with a simple click from the administrative area. And above all, security.

What Boonex has failed to realize is that old truism... KISS Keep It Simple, Stupid.

Looking forward to it. I know it takes time. So for me, unfortunately, I may have to stay with D7 right at the moment due to the features my client wants ( )
