Wow - I seriously wish I would have stumbled upon this website and this thread prior to migrating my site over to D7!

I was using a shoddy phpbb3/wordpress integration prior, I needed something more robust and socially interactive and D7 seemed to fit the bill. After watching their wonderful promotional video, I was sold and ready to migrate my users immediately. I found out very quickly that I shot myself in the foot, and that boonex is spending their licensing fees on new gimmicks rather than fixing their broken code.

I'm not as heavily invested in it as some are, I purchased a few mods to add functionality that should have already been there. I am at the point where I need more functionality and am not willing to pay for it, as I don't feel that I will obtain the solid solution I am looking for. Don't get me wrong, I am more than happy paying for something that performs as expected, this my friends is not it!

So now the question enters my mind.. how seamless can I make the transition from D7 to joomla? I've already had to force my members to reset their password once, in my community's fragile infancy I would hate to have to make them do it again so soon.

Yes, while encrypted users passwords are perhaps a standard these days, they are a pain. They make it hard to move people to a new platform - and they also make it much more difficult to add in 3rd party applications (with auto-login to these applications).

As for moving your Dolphin 7 users to Joomla, you could check/compare the Dolphin 7 and Joomla password encryption code - and modify Joomla to use the same method - then you can use the current encrypted password... but this also means, with each Joomla update - you would need to re-add in this modification.

Or take a look at the Joomla code - and make sure it is really easy and idiot-proof for them to be able to easily and hassle free, reset it, if they can't login.

Or, you could try to hack the current passwords...

Or, just bite the bullet, and have them change once again.

As for Dolphin 5.6.5 (and our current project concerning that) - we will either not encrypt the main password - or use a two way decryption with a seed - so we can always get the password back (if we know the seed). It is really the better way.
