Default phpBB or SMF Forum software

Has anyone used the SMF Forum software?

I came across it earlier today and it seems to work well. It is php and MySQL based. the web site is: http://www.simplemachines.org/

It has a nice look and feel about it (and it is free).

My question: which would be better for use withing Dolphin 6.000.5?

    phpBB and smf..

Well i have used smf for a long time, and yes i like it. But for all my dolphin sites V6.0 ( upgraded to .03) i use somthing i found phpBBFF. same as phpbb but fully modded. ( all the toys ) and i love it! Easy to intergrade for a new site.

the only thing i found with phpbbff is if you already have users it could be a Pain to get there accounts into it.. All new members will be logged in automatically.

SMF, i didnt use because i was not sure of how well it would intergrate. maby it would be just as easy as phpbb by installing in the same database, dunno.

I hope this might of helped your search on a forum to use insted of the ORCA and RAY stuff.. ( us people using shared hosting have many problems with that) I guess if you have a decated hosting server there are no problems.

    Smile phpBBFM

    Hello Dan,

Many thanks for that, I had a look at phpBBFM. It looks very similar to SMF. I think I will be guided by you and have phpBBFM integrated with my site. This way I can always be sure of getting help should I need it!

    Cheers,

    Stuart

no problem, I learned how to install it from this site. The only diffrence between phpbb and phpbbfm is it already has all the toys installed. but installing is the same.

One thing that im having a problem with that i think alot of people have the same problem is making the rss feed show on the home page and the Groups option. i cant belive it would be very hard, but im not the best at code anyways. most of it is just 2 + 2. I opened a support ticket for the rss and groups. I will keep you updated on that if you wish.

Well - you asked for an opinion.... we use SMF on one of our sister sites - and I don't like it.

As for phpBB... I always cringe due to the security issues that it has had for so many years.
